Student answer (Band 5.5)

People have different views about competing in life regarding whether it have a postive effect or induviduals need to coprate rather than competing. this essay will examine both perpectives before explainingwhy i beileve that both works side by side.

On the one hand, some people argue that competition at work environment or school even in the routine life it a vital thing. the main reason behind this beileve is that, human being is a competitive creator by instect, and it can be seen in history and even in our time: each civilzation hoped and tried to be the first in every feilds such as science, culture, sport, military. as a result, humanity now reached a peak level of evolution, for instance ;the interent was a spy project created in the cold war as a result of the MILITARY competition between the USA and the Soviet union.

On the other hand, others believe that cooprating is more important and benificial than fighting each other, for the reason that humans have been accomplished greater things when they are united, even animals like Wolf relate to each other to provide supplies and to live. for example, the international space station which every country participate to be build, another example is corona virus when a groupe of scientist from all around the world created a vaccion in a short period, in my opinion, this view is more convincing because the power when we r united not when we separate.

In conclusion, both views have solid points, however, i think that coprating is more important because of what we seen in the last few decades of how societes developed by the union of it people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the question and state a clear preference for cooperation, especially in the final paragraph. The examples of the internet, the International Space Station and vaccine development are relevant and help illustrate your points. However, the discussion is not fully developed: the competition paragraph mainly asserts that humans are naturally competitive and that this has advanced civilisation, without explaining how competition benefits people at work, school or in everyday life. The cooperation examples are also listed more than analysed, and the opinion that both approaches can work together is not reconciled with the later claim that cooperation is more important. Develop each view with a clear explanation of its effects, then make your position consistent throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the overall direction easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, ideas sometimes run together, and the links between claims and examples are not always clear. For instance, the move from humans being competitive to civilisation reaching an evolutionary peak needs a more explicit explanation. The second body paragraph also shifts quickly from animal behaviour to the space station and vaccine development. Use clearer topic sentences and explain how each example supports the paragraph’s main point. More precise referencing and less reliance on formulaic transitions would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary suited to the topic, including “competition,” “cooperate,” “civilization,” “evolution,” and “international space station.” This gives you enough range to communicate the main ideas, but spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “postive,” “induv iduals,” “coprate,” “instect,” and “vaccion.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “competitive creator” and “provide supplies” when describing wolves. Aim for accurate spelling and natural collocations, and choose words that express your intended meaning precisely. Proofreading carefully and learning vocabulary in phrases, rather than as isolated words, would improve clarity and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because” and “when,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, control is uneven: errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence boundaries occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. For example, “whether it have a positive effect” needs subject–verb agreement, while “the international space station which every country participate to be build” has problems with the verb pattern and passive form. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, and several long sentences need clearer separation. Practise building accurate sentence patterns first, then extend them with subordinate clauses; check each sentence for a clear subject, correctly formed verb and appropriate punctuation.
