Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for competition in the introduction and conclusion. The workplace example links competition with harder work and business gains, while the school example explains how students may aim for higher marks. You also recognise that cooperation can reduce jealousy and support students who are struggling. However, the discussion remains limited and some claims are unclear or insufficiently explained—for example, how competition improves a company’s position and why cooperation helps employees perform better. Your opinion is stated, but its reasoning is not developed consistently, and the conclusion introduces the idea of helping “low level” employees without explaining how this fits your preference. Develop each main point with a clearer explanation and a specific, relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the second hand,” and “To sum up” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several ideas are joined without clear links. For instance, the workplace paragraph moves from competition to sales and company benefits, but the relationship between these points is not fully explained. Repeated use of “For example,” “As a result,” and “Secondly” also makes the linking feel mechanical. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example directly to its claim, and make references such as “this” or “they” unambiguous.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “competition,” “cooperate,” “performance,” “confidence,” and “benefit.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “good,” “performance,” and “competition.” Some choices and combinations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “company increase their sale product,” “poor performance student,” and “show overall a good performances.” Spelling errors, including “belive,” “rathar,” and “achive,” are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Build a wider set of precise expressions for workplace and educational outcomes, and check spelling and word forms. More natural collocations would make your points easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including conditional structures such as “if there is competition between sales worker” and clauses beginning with “because” and “when.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and verb forms. Examples include “competition … is good thing,” “company increase,” and “this is also help them.” Some sentences are difficult to follow because clauses are joined without appropriate punctuation, as in the final sentence. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, including lowercase “i” and missing spaces after commas. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea and a supporting clause, and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
