Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, some people think that competition at work, at school and in daily life is a good thing. Others believe that we should try to cooperate more, rather than competing against each other has become widely debated topic around the world. While some people believe that it has many benefits others think that it can cause problems. In my opinion, the advantages of this are greater than the disadvantages and I will discuss the both sides below.
On one hand, some people think that this is not a good idea The main reason for this belief is that competition at work will create a bad environment and people will always try to degrade to other members. Because of this a number of people worried about the effects it may have on society and family life. This is why some people do not support this idea in their daily lives.
On the otherhand, many people including myself believes that this is very beneficial for people and society.I personally support this view because competition can increase our confidence and by increasing confidence we can learn different things through others and we can enhance our daily life. For example, many people in different countries have already benefited from this in many ways. This shows that this idea is more useful and practical for people in modern life today.
In conclusion, although both views have some truth. I beleive that the positive side is stronger. If people use this wisely and carefully it will bring more good result than bad ones. I hope that government and individuals will work together for a better and more successfull future for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You present a clear opinion that the benefits of competition are greater, and you attempt to discuss both competition and cooperation. However, the discussion of cooperation is very limited: the first body paragraph focuses on the harmful effects of competition rather than explaining how cooperation helps people. The supporting ideas are also general; for example, the claim that competition builds confidence is not developed with a specific explanation or example. The conclusion repeats your position but adds little. The response contains 243 words, so it is 7 words below the required minimum; 32 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To strengthen the response, explain both views directly and support each with a relevant, specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “On one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the broad direction of your argument. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited: several statements repeat the general idea that competition is beneficial or harmful without developing a connected line of reasoning. The first body paragraph also does not clearly develop the cooperation side, which weakens the overall balance. Some linking is mechanical, and punctuation around transitions is missing, as in “On the otherhand” and “society.I”. Use topic sentences that identify each view, then connect explanations and examples with clear references and varied linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “competition,” “cooperate,” “beneficial,” and “confidence,” and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, such as “this idea,” “many ways,” and “more useful and practical.” Some collocations and word forms are inaccurate, including “degrade to other members” and “more good result,” while spelling errors such as “beleive” and “successfull” reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your position, but they make the argument less precise. Build a wider set of topic-specific expressions and check spelling and natural word combinations when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “While some people believe…” and a conditional sentence in the conclusion. The overall meaning is usually clear, but errors in agreement, sentence boundaries, articles, and punctuation remain. For example, “many people including myself believes” should use a plural verb, and “has become widely debated topic” needs a clearer subject and an article. The opening sentence also joins two views in a way that makes its structure difficult to follow. Improve control by checking subject–verb agreement, ensuring each sentence has a clear grammatical structure, and using full stops and commas consistently. More accurate complex sentences would make your reasoning easier to follow.
