Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that competing at professional enviroments, at school, and in day to day life is a good thing however few people believe that we should try to cooperat more, rather than competing against each other. In my opinion, competion is a significant technique to grow further in life.

On the one hand, some people believe that competion is a great thing this is because it increases the will to always be ahead of eachother and gain more opportunties to success for example, people in corporate jobs will always work harder and compete to eachother so their work gets noticed by their boss and they get praise which could lead to higher role being offered or bonus.Competition makes you learn many things as there is always a spark to be better than others , being more helpful and sharp then others which will also financially gain more benefits.

On the other hand, many people think that we should also try to be a little cooperative rather than always being competitive against eachother which can create misunderstandings in every situation for instance, competing with your friends in every situation can also harm their friendship because of always wanting their selfes at the top and not being happy when their friends top at school eventually leading to loosing their friendships.

In conclusion, although competitions has some drawbacks, i believe it is benefitial in the long term because it motivates people to work harder, improve their skills, and achive greater succes. However, people should also learn to cooperate with other to maintain healthy relationships.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a consistent opinion: competition is beneficial, although cooperation matters for relationships. The workplace example about employees seeking recognition, promotion, or a bonus supports the competitive view, while the example of friends competing at school illustrates a possible cost. This is relevant coverage of the task. However, the cooperation side is developed mainly through the risk of damaged friendships, rather than explaining the positive benefits of cooperation, and the competitive argument repeats the idea of working harder without fully exploring its effects. Develop each view more evenly and explain how cooperation can help people achieve shared goals.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and examples are placed with the relevant arguments. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. However, connections within sentences are sometimes awkward or unclear, as in “this is because it increases the will…” and “which can create misunderstandings in every situation.” Some ideas also run together, particularly where punctuation is missing before “Competition makes you learn.” Use clearer sentence boundaries and more precise links between claims and examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “competing,” “cooperative,” “opportunities,” “financially,” and “misunderstandings.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “competion,” “cooperat,” “opportunties,” “selfes,” and “achive” are examples. Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “compete to each other,” “higher role being offered,” and “friends top at school.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make parts less fluent. Build accuracy with common collocations and check spelling carefully; aim to express repeated ideas with more varied, precise vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrastive opening and clauses introduced by “because,” “which,” and “although.” The main meaning is generally clear, and the response has an identifiable introduction, body, and conclusion. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain, however. The opening joins two independent clauses with “however” without suitable punctuation, and “people in corporate jobs will always work harder and compete…” has an unclear construction. In “their friends top at school,” the verb pattern is incomplete, while “competitions has” shows a subject–verb agreement problem. Missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent capitalisation also affect accuracy. Review sentence boundaries, agreement, and complete clause structure.
