Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You address both sides of the question: competition is linked to achieving high grades and promotion, while cooperation is presented as a way for stronger students to help weaker ones. The personal example about gaining first position is relevant, but the discussion remains brief and the reasons are not sufficiently explained or supported. Your own opinion is also unclear: the conclusion says both have value, but does not explain how you weigh them or when each is most useful. The response ends mid-sentence, which leaves the conclusion incomplete. It also does not meet the 250-word minimum, so the limited development is especially noticeable. Develop each view with a specific explanation or example, then state your position clearly and finish the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for competition and cooperation, and a concluding attempt. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore,” and “To conclude” help signal these stages. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and several ideas are joined in long, unclear sentences. For example, the opening paragraph repeats that both approaches are important without establishing a clear direction, while the cooperation paragraph moves from helping others to achieving positions without explaining the connection. The final sentence is incomplete, disrupting the ending. Use one main point per paragraph, connect each reason to its explanation, and make references such as “they” and “this way” more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “competition,” “cooperation,” “achieve,” “high grades,” and “positions,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “important,” “value,” and “competition/cooperation.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, such as “valueable,” “referances,” “employs,” “differents,” and “achivemen,” which make the writing less clear and polished. Some combinations are unnatural, including “give a hard time to myself” and “settle and achieve the high rank positions.” Build a wider set of accurate topic phrases and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences and use basic linking structures, but most sentence patterns are simple or become difficult to follow when several ideas are joined. Errors in agreement and sentence construction occur in examples such as “Competitions and cooperations have both valueable” and “the people who think competitions is a good things.” Articles and plural forms are also inconsistent, as in “at my school” alongside “the high rank positions,” and punctuation is often missing around sentence boundaries. The final phrase, “in this way the achivemen,” is unfinished. These recurring errors sometimes make the intended relationships unclear. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and complete sentence forms, then use a few controlled complex sentences to explain causes and examples.
