Student answer (Band 5.0)

In today's world, competition is a common thing that can be found in any sector. If we talk about eduction, ranking system is there. In work life, everyone is competing with each other for promotion. Even, all countries are trying to become developed and superpower.

On the one hand, people find it intersenting to compete with one another, which boost up their morale. It works as an adernalin booster in our mind. It helps us to realise, whats our status in the society. It is simmilar to the heirarchy system, where people get things according to their capabilities.

On the other hand, it shows discrimination among the people. Competition is good for fun activities but for day-to-day life it can be stressful and anxcious. It give opportunities to people make fun of individuals who are less.

Considering things in mind, I think it is best for enjoyment and fun activities. There should be no competetion in our everyday life that can lead us to become rasist and spread bitterness in our society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear overall preference for cooperation in everyday life, while allowing that competition can be enjoyable in fun activities. You also mention possible benefits, such as boosting morale, and a drawback, such as stress. However, the discussion of cooperation is very limited, and the reasons on both sides are asserted rather than explained or supported with relevant examples. The comparison with a hierarchy does not clearly show why competition is beneficial, and the final claim about becoming “rasist” is not developed. The response is also 78 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to address both views fully. Develop each side with a specific example and explain how it supports your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph beginning “On the one hand,” a contrasting paragraph, and a concluding opinion. These signposts make the basic direction easy to follow. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and some links feel mechanical rather than showing how one point leads to the next. For example, the move from competition boosting morale to “our status in the society” and then to a hierarchy is not clearly explained. The contrast paragraph also shifts quickly from discrimination to stress and then to people making fun of others. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each supporting point explicitly to the paragraph’s main idea; this would make the organisation more developed and the relationships between ideas clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “competition,” “promotion,” “morale,” “discrimination,” and “stress,” and these choices help communicate the general subject. There are also attempts at more expressive language, such as “adrenalin booster” and “bitterness.” However, the range is limited, and several spelling errors or imprecise expressions make the writing less clear, including “eduction,” “intersenting,” “simmilar,” and “anxious” misspelled as “anxious” in context? The phrase “people who are less” is incomplete in meaning, while “adrenalin booster” is an awkward collocation. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “motivate people,” “create anxiety,” and “those with fewer advantages,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most sentences are short and straightforward, and the basic meaning is generally understandable. You also attempt some longer structures, for example, “Competition is good for fun activities but for day-to-day life it can be stressful,” though the response shows limited variety overall. Several grammatical errors recur: “which boost up their morale” has a subject–verb agreement problem, “It give opportunities” should use a plural verb, and “helps us to realise, whats our status” has faulty punctuation and an incorrectly formed embedded question. The sentence “It give opportunities to people make fun” also needs a grammatical link before “make.” Practise accurate agreement, embedded questions, and verb patterns, then combine simple sentences with controlled complex structures.
