Student answer (Band 5.0)

On those days the concept of competition is become more popular at school and in daily life many people think is a good thing. However, others disagree believe that we should try cooperate more, instead of competing against each other. I will discuss both views and draw my conclusions.

The benefits of competition in daily life firstly, motivate people to work more on themself such as continue their education like master and PHD degree. Secondly, leading to focus more on weakness for example, when student get bad marks in some subjects while others classmate getting high marks this is lead the student to work more for getting the same result. Moreover, the competition is part of personal ambitions to reach for peak for instance, career progress and honor list at school these aspect increase the competition between people espically in the same position or class. These are the benefits for competition in daily life.

On the other hand, one of the main disadvantages of focus more on competing each other instead to cooperate more is the relationship between people should based on sharing things for example, learning or influence the positive things from other person personility. In addition, the competition lead for tension between teamate or classmate such as stress and uncomfortable environment, social distract between colleauges. These are the disadvantages on focus more on competing against each other instead of cooperate more in daily life.

To sum up, even competition in daily life have many benefits, but I agree more try to cooperate more, rather than competing against each other.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You discuss both competition and cooperation, and your final sentence makes your preference for cooperation clear. The competition paragraph gives relevant examples, including pursuing further education and responding to lower marks, while the other side mentions relationships and tension among classmates or teammates. However, the discussion remains general and several points are not fully explained: for example, you mention career progress and an honour list without showing how these outcomes support competition. The cooperation view is also less developed, with no specific example of how working together improves results. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each example and make your position clearer before the conclusion. The response meets the stated length requirement; the 10 words copied from the prompt are excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the other hand” and “To sum up” help readers identify the shift in argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because ideas are presented as a list, and several sentences are fragments or awkwardly connected, such as “The benefits of competition in daily life firstly, motivate people…” The repeated closing statements (“These are the benefits…” and “These are the disadvantages…”) add little development. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example directly to its point, and vary linking expressions rather than relying mainly on “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Moreover.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “competition,” “cooperate,” “personal ambitions,” “career progress,” and “tension.” This gives the reader a basic understanding of the ideas. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making meaning unclear: “focus more on weakness,” “social distract,” and “reach for peak” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “espically,” “colleauges,” and “personility” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of phrases for discussing collaboration and rivalry, and check spelling and word forms carefully. For example, describe how competition can “encourage people to improve” rather than using unclear phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to express reasons and examples using longer sentences, and the response includes some basic linking structures. However, grammatical errors are frequent and can make the reader work to understand the message. Examples include “the concept of competition is become,” “many people think is a good thing,” and “we should try cooperate”; these need correct verb forms and sentence patterns. Agreement and number are also inconsistent, as in “the competition lead” and “others classmate.” Some sentences lack a complete grammatical structure, including “Secondly, leading to focus more on weakness.” Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with clauses using “because,” “when,” and “which.” Check articles, verb agreement, and plural forms during revision.
