Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both sides and state a clear preference for cooperation in the introduction, so the response addresses the main parts of the question. The competition paragraph gives relevant points about recognising talent, achieving goals and building confidence; the cooperation paragraph explains sharing ideas and widening social connections. However, these ideas are mostly asserted rather than fully explained, and some examples remain general. The conclusion also shifts towards saying that people should both work hard and help one another, without clearly resolving how this relates to your preference for cooperation over competition. Develop each main point with a specific example and explain more directly why cooperation should be prioritised. The response meets the stated length requirement; 12 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. This makes the overall arrangement easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with repeated use of “For example,” “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “As a result.” Some links are unclear or faulty, such as “since, people share the information” and the abrupt “than they lead a successful life.” References such as “his” and “they” also make it difficult to identify who is meant. Use fewer formulaic connectors and make the relationship between each claim and its explanation explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “competition,” “cooperate,” “talent,” “confidance,” and “social circle,” and you attempt to express ideas about personal development and relationships. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors make parts of the response difficult to read. Examples include “point of views,” “a good think,” “compettition,” “advance level,” and “pleaceful.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “make become a successful person” and “increase the social circle.” Build a more accurate set of topic phrases and check spelling and word forms carefully. Prefer natural combinations such as “develop skills,” “build confidence,” and “expand one’s social network.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while,” “when,” and “since,” and the reader can generally identify your main points. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. For example, “competition is important for human growth, this is because…” joins two independent clauses incorrectly, while “people can personal growth” lacks a grammatical verb structure. There are also recurring problems with subject–verb agreement and sentence construction, as in “competition help people” and “people believe that cooperate more better.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, particularly the lowercase “if” beginning the conclusion. Practise forming accurate clauses and vary sentence patterns only when you can control their grammar.
