Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is frequently argue that whether competition at work, at school and in daily life is benefical or not. Whilie some people believe in favour of competition, others argue that cooperation should be prioritised rather than competition.
On the one hand, proponents of the competition argue that it motivates people to work harder in their respective field. They claim the progress of our modern civilization is a direct outcome of competition among differnt nations. Throughout the history, people compete to each other to become great in various sectors such as medicine, technologies which results in our modern society. For example, in corporation employees not likely to work harder if everyone gets equal promotion without any distinction. Workers tend to be a mild performer rather than aspirational employee because they don't need to prove themselves as high achiever to get organisational benefits. As a result, it reduces overall outcome of the organisation and discourage employees to innovate something new.
On the other hand, many people claim that cooperation is essential for our overall benefits in every sphere of human lives. They argue that human beings are the best creation on earth than any other animals because we live in a society where everyone cooperates to each other for collective progress. Moreover, teamwork is better to solve any problem and to face any challenges in our life. For example, In a pandemic situation, it would be better for humanity to share scientific research outcomes with other scientist to facilitate vaccination programs rather than competing. Additionaly, Studies suggest that, children learn effectively to solve problems in groups rather than alone.
Although I personally believe that competition is useful for our daily activities such as in workplace or educational institutions, in terms of necessity such as medical research or innovation cooperation is a must.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both perspectives and gives a clear personal view: competition is useful in workplaces and education, while cooperation is essential for medical research and innovation. The examples about employee promotion, pandemic research and children solving problems in groups are relevant. This meets the task well, but the two sides are not developed equally: the competition paragraph explains motivation and organisational outcomes, whereas the cooperation paragraph makes broader claims, such as humans being superior because they cooperate, without explaining them in detail. The conclusion is clear but brief. To strengthen the response further, explain the limits or benefits of each approach and connect each example more explicitly to the argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding opinion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “Although” make the progression easy to follow, and examples generally appear beside the claims they support. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. For instance, the move from cooperation in society to teamwork and then to pandemic research is understandable but reads as a list of related points rather than a fully developed line of reasoning. The final paragraph also introduces a distinction between everyday activities and medical research quite abruptly. Use clearer links between claims and examples, and develop each paragraph around a more continuous central argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is adequate vocabulary for discussing the topic, including “proponents,” “collective progress,” “aspirational employee,” and “organisational benefits.” These choices show an attempt to use more specific language, and the meaning is generally clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “compete to each other,” “modern civilization,” and “share scientific research outcomes.” Spelling errors, including “benefical,” “differnt,” and “Additionaly,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural combinations of words and check spelling carefully; for example, use “compete with one another” and “share research findings.” Greater precision would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts a mix of simple and complex structures, including contrast clauses (“While some people believe…”) and a conditional example (“if everyone gets equal promotion…”). The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “It is frequently argue” instead of a passive form such as “It is frequently argued,” “people compete” where the past-tense context calls for “competed,” and “it reduces … and discourage,” where the verbs do not agree. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “in a pandemic situation” and “other scientist.” To improve, check verb forms and agreement in each sentence, and review article and plural use. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
