Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people beleive that competition at work, at school and in daily life is a good thing. I agree with it because competition give many leasson to us like pressure handle, dealing with stress and hard working. While, other people believe that we shoult try to cooperate with each other, rather than competing.

On the one hand, competition is important on every stage of life. I think there are not taste of life without competition. People try their best to win the competetion. So, it makes all of us hard working and responsible. In competition only one win remaining get lose, but i think competition give lesson to all of us. For Example, in School there are many competition between students like quiz, sports, exam, etc. So, students also enjoy it and give best to win the competition. Some time lose a competition also give us many lessons. We need to learn from this lose and try to improve the weakness. If we remove the competition from school than students do not give better performance. They only work to pass the exam.

On the other hand, some people believe we should try to cooperate more, rather than competing against each other. They are true at some point like in some stage of life we need to cooperate with each other rather than competing. In offices employee try to compete each other. As a result, they deal with each other like anemy. It has very bad affect on office environment. So, in some part of life we need to cooperate with each other. If someone stuck in issue we need to help each other.

In conclusion, competition is very important for all of us. We give our best to win the competition. If someone lose the competition they must improve their weakness. But at some stage we need to coperate with each other rather then competing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both competition and cooperation and give a clear overall preference for competition, supported by relevant examples such as school quizzes, sports and exams. You also explain that workplace rivalry can harm the office environment and that colleagues should help one another. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the benefits of competition are repeated in several places, while the case for cooperation receives less explanation and no specific example. Your position is present, but it could be more nuanced by explaining when competition is useful and when cooperation is more effective. Develop each main point with a clearer explanation of its consequences.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive: the competition paragraph returns several times to winning, losing and learning lessons without clearly building a new point. Some links are also awkward or unclear, including “In competition only one win remaining get lose.” Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s main claim, then arrange supporting explanation and examples in a clear sequence. Vary linking expressions and make references between sentences more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “competition,” “cooperate,” “responsible,” “performance” and “office environment.” There are also attempts at useful phrases such as “deal with stress” and “learn from this loss.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make the writing less natural, for example “pressure handle,” “give many lesson,” “compete each other,” and “bad affect.” Spelling errors such as “beleive,” “competetion” and “coperate” are noticeable. Build a bank of accurate collocations for this topic and check spelling and word forms carefully; this will make your meaning clearer and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including conditional forms such as “If someone stuck in issue we need to help each other” and a result clause beginning “As a result.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, articles and punctuation sometimes make the reader work to understand the message. For example, “competition give many leasson to us” has an agreement problem, while “If we remove the competition from school than students do not give better performance” is not accurately formed. Some sentences also lack necessary grammatical elements, as in “If someone stuck in issue.” Practise building accurate clauses first, then combine them using conditionals and cause-and-effect structures.
