Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modern era, competition exists in every sector of society including workplace, institution and everyday life. However, while some are of the view that competition is beneficial, I align with those who are of the view that cooperation is more beneficial than competition.

On the one hand, critics who argue that competition is important because people desire to win. Numerous individuals want to win games, and this attitude motivate them to work hard to achieve their goals. This also encourages them to improve their performance. For example, schools and universities organise several competitions, and students work hard to win that competition. In addition, when students participates in competitions, they develop various skills, such as team work, time management and decision making.

On the other hand, I believe, preventing conflict among individuals is the former reason for cooperation. Some time, many people fight with their colleagues in work place due to competitions. For instance, employees always argue with their colleagues for promotion, salary increase because everyone wants to be better than other. Another reason i shall put-forth is mutual understanding. When employee work with their colleagues without conflict, it benefits everyone and improve mutual understanding. For instance, In many companies, employee work together on crucial projects, share their ideas and discuss each other to find solution. As a result, they can complete their task efficiently and in time limit.

To conclude, although desire to win improve people work accuracy, cooperation prevent conflict among people. Therefore, on balance, I believe cooperation is more beneficial than competition to each other.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both perspectives and state a consistent preference for cooperation, so the response addresses the main parts of the task. The competition paragraph gives relevant reasons—motivation to achieve goals and improve performance—and an example involving students. Your case for cooperation is more developed, with workplace conflict and shared project work as supporting points. However, some claims remain general: the skills students gain are listed but not explained, and the argument that cooperation prevents conflict could be clarified with a more specific example or explanation. The conclusion restates your position, but “improve people work accuracy” is not fully clear. Develop each main point more evenly and explain how each example supports your view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow, and examples generally appear beside the points they support. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. At times, however, links feel mechanical, and the sequence within the cooperation paragraph is not always smooth: conflict prevention, mutual understanding, and project efficiency are introduced as separate reasons without fully showing how they connect. Use clearer referencing and transitions between related ideas, and avoid repeating the same point in slightly different terms.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “competition,” “cooperation,” “mutual understanding,” “decision making,” and “efficiently.” These choices allow you to discuss both workplace and educational contexts, and the meaning is generally clear. You also attempt more formal expressions such as “align with” and “put-forth,” although some phrasing is inaccurate or unnatural. Examples include “win that competition,” “fight with their colleagues,” and “work accuracy”; these weaken precision even when the intended meaning can be inferred. Focus on natural collocations and accurate word forms, and choose straightforward expressions when a more formal phrase is uncertain. This would make your arguments sound more precise and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause in the introduction and a conditional structure in “When employee work with their colleagues…”. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “this attitude motivate,” “students participates,” and “cooperation prevent.” There are also article and number issues in phrases such as “when employee work” and “better than other,” as well as punctuation problems after “On the one hand” and around “I believe.” These errors do not usually prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy. Check agreement and singular/plural forms carefully, and proofread sentence boundaries and commas after introductory phrases.
