Student answer (Band 4.5)

In recent year, some individuals think that competition at work, at school and in daily life is a good thing. But others believe that we shoud try to cooperate more, than the competing against each other has become a widely discuss issue because some people agree to the competition but other belive that cooperate work. In my opinion, competition is a good think, but some need other peoples then cooperate also good think.

one major point to cosider is that, competion at work, at school and daily life is good thing because competition change our lazy habit and hard work habit increase, but sometime needs other people to help, as well as my own experience is i went to university and worked with friend of university work and most part share with friend and easily cover. Then competition is good.

seond major point, others believe that we should try to cooperate more, rather then competing each other. cooperate work is good thing because help each other and some work is very difficult to complete one person then cooperate work very helpful for difficult works, as well as group work is very easy complete beacause some people thinking good and others work speed well.

In my opinion, team work or cooperate work is very helpful because team work is very easy. in my own experience is very well because i am playing cricket and team work very helpful for all team member, as well as 1 player out and other manage this work. And school in assignment work is very easy for me with my team

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address both views and state an opinion, first saying competition can encourage hard work and then explaining that cooperation helps with difficult tasks. Your examples about university work, cricket and a school assignment are relevant, but the reasons are brief and sometimes unclear; for instance, the point that competition changes “our lazy habit” needs explanation. Your position also shifts: the opening favours competition, while the conclusion mainly supports teamwork, without clarifying how you balance the two. The response is 240 words, so it is 10 words below the required minimum; this limits the space available to develop both sides. Explain each view more fully and give a consistent, clearly supported conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on competition, a paragraph on cooperation and a concluding paragraph. This helps readers identify the two sides. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow, and several ideas are joined together without clear relationships. For example, the first body paragraph moves from competition encouraging hard work to needing help from others and then to university experience, ending with “Then competition is good.” Repeated transitions such as “as well as” do not always show how the ideas connect. Use one main point per paragraph, explain it in a logical sequence, and choose linking expressions that accurately signal contrast, cause or example.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, but you use some relevant terms, including “competition,” “cooperate,” “team work” and “difficult.” The repeated use of “good thing” and “very helpful” makes it hard to express more precise differences between the two views. There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as “competion,” “belive,” “seond” and “discuss issue,” which can strain the reader’s understanding. Build a small range of accurate topic vocabulary and check spelling and word forms. For example, you could describe competition as “motivation” or “an incentive,” and cooperation as “collaboration,” while ensuring each expression fits the sentence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, but sentence structures are very limited and errors are frequent enough to make some meanings difficult to follow. For example, “some people agree to the competition but other belive that cooperate work” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “group work is very easy complete” is missing a necessary construction. Articles, verb forms, agreement and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “competition change our lazy habit” and “i am playing cricket and team work very helpful.” Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using clauses such as “because” and “although.” Check that each sentence has a subject and a correctly formed verb.
