Student answer (Band 6.0)

Cooperation and competition are the essential aspects of modern society. Some individuals believe that competition encourages people to perform better, while others argue that cooperation helps people support each other and create a productive environment. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining why I believe a balance is necessary. Although cooperation should be given more importance.

On one hand, Healthy competition allows people to grow and do better. Students work harder in school to compete for excellent grades and scholarships. Likewise, in workplaces employees may become more efficient and innovative if their bonuses depend on their performances. For example, many successful enterprenuers achieved remarkable results because they challenged themselves to outfrom their compititors.

On the other hand, excessive compition leads to the unnecessary pressure and cause damage to relationships .In educational institutes, students who constantly compare themselves with others may experience constant stress and anxiety which also effect their overall wellbeing and mental health .In highly compititive offices employees do not share ideas and assist their colleagues for the personal advantages.

In contrast, cooperation creates harmony and promotes teamwork. When people work together they tend to solve problems efficiently. In hospitals for instance doctors, nurses and paramedical staff work as a team to give better treatment to patients.

In my opinion Cooperation helps people to grow together to gain success by developing amjor qualities such as, determination, discipline and consistency among them. Also,Major global chanllanges can not be addressed withouit coopertaon For instance to overcome climate issues coperation among nationalities is must. .

In conclusion.Compition motivates individuals to unlock their potential whereas cooperation craestes asupportuing environemnt to achive major goals.although the benefits of compitition are undeniabale but cooperation is more important in most situations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a position: competition can motivate individuals, but cooperation deserves greater importance. Relevant examples from schools, workplaces, hospitals and climate action help answer the question. However, some points are more fully explained than others. The benefits of competition are illustrated through grades and bonuses, while the claim that cooperation develops “determination, discipline and consistency” is asserted rather than clearly explained. The climate example is relevant but would be stronger if you showed how cooperation enables countries to address the issue. Develop each main claim with a clear explanation of its consequences, and make your preference for cooperation consistent from the introduction through the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure, moving from an introduction to arguments for competition, arguments for cooperation, your opinion and a conclusion. Paragraphing generally helps the reader follow the discussion, and signposts such as “On one hand” and “On the other hand” clarify the contrast. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty: “In contrast” interrupts the cooperation paragraph without a clear contrast, and the introduction ends with the fragment “Although cooperation should be given more importance.” The conclusion also begins with “In conclusion.” as a separate, awkwardly punctuated sentence. Use transitions to show precise relationships between ideas, and connect the thesis and conclusion more smoothly to the preceding sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “productive environment,” “innovative,” “teamwork,” “anxiety” and “global challenges.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes distract the reader: “enterprenuers,” “compitition,” “outfrom,” “chanllanges” and “craetest” appear in place of intended words. Some collocations are also unnatural, such as “compete for excellent grades” and “personal advantages.” Proofread carefully and learn vocabulary in natural combinations; for example, people may “strive for high grades” and “withhold ideas for personal gain.” More accurate spelling and collocation would make your vocabulary more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “employees may become more efficient … if their bonuses depend on their performances” and a relative clause beginning “Students who constantly compare themselves with others.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. For example, “excessive competition … cause damage” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “which also effect their overall wellbeing” needs a correctly formed verb. The opening ends with the incomplete clause “Although cooperation should be given more importance,” and several sentences run together without appropriate spacing or punctuation. Check agreement and clause completeness, and use sentence boundaries consistently while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
