Student answer (Band 5.5)
There is an ongoing debate whether competition at wrokplace, at educational institutions and in daily life is a significant aspact or we should try to cooperate with each other instaed of competing against each other. This essay will discuss both perspectives, however, I firmly convinced that cooperation is more important than other factors.
On the one hand, some people believe that competition is fundamental aspact in workplace, schools and in daily activities. one major reason behind this veiw is that competition enhance the confidence and develop strong competitive behavior to tackle problems in many situations. In other words, competition provides motivation to achieve the goals and also helps us to stay active at school or at workplace. To illustartes this, students pay more attentions on study during exams to compete their classmates and got highest marks in their exams.
On the other hand, others argue that we should try best to coperate with each other rather than compete with each other. This is mainly because cooperation plays pivotal role at any workplace and educational institutions. Furthermore, cooperation creates a healthy environment and provides support to new workers and students to adapt the new environment. For instance, cooperation at workplace yeilds the significant benefits for new employes. Therefore, I believe this view is more convincing.
In conclusion, although competition can offer certain benefits. Cooperation has its own advantanges. I believe that we should concentrate on cooperation owing to the fact it helps other indivituals to adap the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both sides of the question and state a clear preference for cooperation in the introduction and conclusion. The discussion of competition gives relevant reasons—motivation, confidence and goal achievement—and the exam example helps illustrate one point. Your cooperation paragraph also identifies support for newcomers as a benefit. However, these ideas are brief and sometimes general: the workplace example is asserted rather than explained, and the comparison between the two approaches is not developed. The conclusion repeats your preference without adding much synthesis. The response is also four words below the required minimum, so it does not fully meet the task’s length instruction. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation or a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, connections can feel mechanical, and some references are unclear. For example, “This view” in the cooperation paragraph could refer more precisely to the argument just presented, while “Therefore” follows an example without showing exactly how it supports your opinion. The conclusion’s contrast between competition and cooperation is also abrupt. To strengthen cohesion, link each example explicitly to its supporting reason and vary transitions rather than relying mainly on standard paragraph openers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “competition,” “cooperate,” “motivation,” “pivotal role,” and “healthy environment,” which is adequate for discussing the topic. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable, including “aspact,” “veiw,” “coperate,” “yeilds,” and “advantanges.” Some collocations are awkward, such as “compete their classmates,” “pay more attentions,” and “adapt the new environment.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main ideas, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Check spelling carefully and learn common word partnerships, especially for describing competition, cooperation, and adapting to a setting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “although competition can offer certain benefits” and a reason clause introduced by “owing to the fact.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “I firmly convinced” needs a passive form (“I am firmly convinced”), and “competition enhance” requires subject–verb agreement. Articles and plural forms are also missing or inaccurate in phrases such as “fundamental aspact” and “pay more attentions.” The opening sentence is long and difficult to control, and the final “although” clause is punctuated as a complete sentence. Aim for accurate basic patterns first, then use complex clauses with careful checking of agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
