Student answer (Band 6.0)

In modern times, competition at work, schools and in daily lives is considered a good thing by some people. While others think that cooperation is far better than competition. In my Opinion, cooperation is the most effective way of mutual growth and productivity. This is because much things can be learnt in joint effort and is also a better way of understanding.

Competition is seen as a good thing in our society and majority of the people support challenges. The primary reason for this is mindset of victory which pushes individuals towards competition in almost every aspect of life. For example, today's parents think that children can only grow when they compete and win from other children. Furthermore, employees in offices try to compete with each other in order to get promoted or to avail bonuses. Competition is considered normal because it is a war of victory and defeat and a successfull person is always a competition winner in scoiety's perspective. Therefore, competition is considered a bettle of supermacy nowadays.

On the other hand, there are some mature persons in our society who strongly oppose the concept of comparing and contest. They view cooperation as a factor of success. This is because, mutual efforts and collaborative working shapes the mindset of every single individual in a group. For instance, a group of students works on a project under the supervision of senior student or a teacher which provides them with better undertanding of topic more efficient results of that task. Consequently, team-based activities are always effective and provides best outcomes with enhanced learning and knowledge.

In conclusion, however a competition can tell a person's capability of his performance, it can aslo effect negatively on his mental health. Whereas, collaborative wroking always gives individuals new ideas and knowledge with deeper understanding.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and state a clear preference for cooperation in the introduction and conclusion. The discussion of competition includes relevant examples involving parents and employees, while the student-project example supports the benefits of collaboration. These points make the response relevant and cover the task. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, describing competition as a “war of victory and defeat” does not clarify when it helps people, and the claim that cooperation improves understanding could be developed with a more specific outcome. Your conclusion briefly acknowledges a possible benefit of competition, but the overall comparison would be stronger if you explained more clearly why cooperation is preferable.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the discussion, and signposts such as “For example,” “Furthermore,” and “On the other hand” make the main shifts visible. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening “While others think…” is a fragment, and the relationship between the claim about competition and the later “Therefore” sentence is not fully developed. In the cooperation paragraph, the example and its claimed benefits are joined in a way that makes the progression difficult to follow. To improve, make each paragraph’s central point explicit and use linking phrases to show precise cause, contrast, or result rather than simply adding another statement.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “collaborative working,” “mutual efforts,” “promoted,” and “mental health,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “factor of success.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling reduce precision: “win from other children,” “a competition winner,” and “battle of supremacy” do not express the intended ideas naturally, while “successfull,” “scoiety,” “bettle,” and “undertanding” are spelling errors. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly repeated references to competition and success. Choose more natural expressions and check spelling carefully; this will make your argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including clauses beginning with “While,” “because,” and “which,” and most of the message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, particularly with agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “much things can be learnt” should use a plural quantifier, and “collaborative working … gives” conflicts with the plural subject “activities” in the later sentence. “While others think that cooperation is far better than competition” is not a complete sentence, and “a group of students works … which provides them” has an unclear reference for “which.” The conclusion also needs a clearer grammatical structure around “however.” Review subject–verb agreement and ensure each sentence has a complete main clause; these changes would improve accuracy without sacrificing your attempts at complex sentences.
