Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that competition is benificial at workplace, at school and in everyday life is, while others say everyone should cooperate each other instead of competing. Although competition can motivate people to improve themselves in many ways, i believe that working together can bring greater benifits to the society.

On the one hand, competition is very essential for any individuals to make their life a bit advanced. For example, the Students always tend to perform better to achieve higher marks or getting higher ranks at schools when they have competition. Similarly, competing in daily life and at workplaces can be very useful in order to self develop or getting promoted. When someone puts efforts to do better than the others, competition always acts like fuel to their motivation in a lot of ways. Hence, competetion can be a very good input.

On the other hand, working together has always brought greater benifits to our civilization from the very beginning. For instance, in the past, our anchestors have always tried to be in groups to protect their tribes and also hunted together to share food. Competition was at it's very lowest during that time as isolation has always been a disastar till to the date from different perspectives. Together, people were able to survive and invent many useful discovers that could have been impossible or difficult to do so. Therefore, rather than competing each other, working together has been one of the reasons for why humans are called the most civilized species.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that, even though competition can be a very useful method for self developement and achieving personal goals, it is always best to stick together to figure out things for the greater good.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both perspectives and state a consistent preference for cooperation: the introduction says it can bring “greater benefits to the society,” and the conclusion restates this view while acknowledging competition’s value. The examples about students seeking higher marks and people working together to survive and invent are relevant. This meets the task well, with some elements developed more fully than others: the competition paragraph explains motivation and promotion, while the cooperation paragraph relies on a broad account of human history rather than a specific, clearly explained example. To strengthen the response further, explain more precisely how cooperation benefits people in modern workplaces or schools, and qualify broad claims such as competition being “at its very lowest” in the past.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that gives your opinion. Progression within the paragraphs is generally logical, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “Therefore” help readers follow the argument. The contrast between individual motivation and collective achievement is also easy to identify. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, and a few connections are not fully clear—for example, the move from ancient group survival to the claim that competition was at its lowest. Use transitions that show the precise relationship between ideas, and make references such as “that time” and “Together” more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “motivate,” “achieve higher marks,” “promoted,” “civilization,” and “survive.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but the range and control are uneven, with repeated general terms such as “competition,” “useful,” and “together.” Several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “benificial,” “anchestors,” “disastar,” and “self developement.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “a good input” and “invent many useful discovers.” Aim for accurate topic-specific expressions and check spelling and word forms carefully; this would make the argument sound more natural and precise without changing its meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concessive opening (“Although competition can motivate people…”) and a concluding clause beginning “even though.” The overall meaning is usually clear, but some grammatical errors occur in both sentence construction and punctuation. For example, the opening sentence combines two structures awkwardly (“is … is, while others say”), and “everyone should cooperate each other” is missing a required preposition. There are also issues with articles and agreement, as in “for any individuals,” and punctuation around “I firmly believe that.” Practise building complete, well-controlled sentences and check articles, prepositions, and clause boundaries during revision.
