Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that competing with each others is advantageous in different areas of life, while others argue that working together is more important. In my opinion, competition can motivate people to improve, cooperation is more valuable because it encourages teamwork and mutual support. Moreover, Competition prepare students for future challenges and this can led to sharper their brain and improve decision making ability.

Firstly, one major advantage of competition is that it motivates people to improve their performance. People try harder when they compete with others, for example, Students study harder to achieve higher marks in exam than their classmates. As a result, they may improve their knowledge and achieve better results in the exams.

On the other hand, one major advantage of cooperation is that individuals can work as a team and also they can support each other to complete task more efficiently. For example, employee in a workplace can work together and help each other, like they can share ideas, to complete the task more efficiently. As a result, task can be completed in less time and also communication between employees will improve. Moreover, Cooperation helps people to solve difficult problems because they can share their knowledge and suggest different solution. This can led to better decision and improve results.

in conclusion, although competition can motivate individuals to improve their performance, and also this can be led to better future, I believe cooperation is more important because it encourages teamwork, mutual support and Effective communication between team members.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for cooperation in the introduction and conclusion. The points about competition motivating students and cooperation enabling colleagues to share ideas are relevant, and the workplace example helps explain the benefits of teamwork. This meets the task well overall, but the two views are not developed equally: the competition discussion is brief, and the opening claim that competition prepares students for future challenges is not explained with a specific example. To strengthen the response, extend that point and explain more fully why cooperation is more valuable, rather than mainly listing its benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for competition and cooperation, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking phrases such as “Firstly,” “On the other hand,” and “As a result” make the progression easy to follow. However, some connections feel mechanical, and ideas are repeated—for example, completing tasks efficiently is mentioned twice in the cooperation paragraph. The opening paragraph also introduces several points before the main discussion, which makes the organisation less controlled. Group related claims together, use pronouns or concise references where appropriate, and vary the way you connect cause and result. These changes would make the progression smoother and cohesion less noticeable.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “competition,” “teamwork,” “mutual support,” “share ideas,” and “decision making.” These choices communicate the main points, but the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise. For instance, “complete the task more efficiently” appears twice, while “sharper their brain” is not a natural expression in this context. There are also word-form and collocation problems, such as “different solution” and “better decision.” Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check whether words naturally combine in English. Replacing repeated general phrases with specific alternatives would make the argument clearer and more flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including cause-and-effect structures with “because” and “As a result.” The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “competition prepare,” “this can led,” and “employee in a workplace can work”; the final sentence also has an awkward construction with “this can be led to better future.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, as in “Competition” and “in conclusion.” Review subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and edit each sentence for complete, natural structure. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentences easier to read.
