Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify that the harbour has changed and mention several relevant features, including the hotel replacing the castle, new cafés and shops, and changes involving the marina and fishing boats. However, the response reports the map only minimally: it does not clearly explain the key relocation of the marina and fishing boats, the change from a public to a hotel beach, or the added facilities and jetties. Some details are inaccurate or unclear, such as “two different dock” and “add an new boart in the beatch.” The overview that there are “not any huge changes” also understates the substantial redevelopment shown. The response is 22 words below the required minimum, which further limits the detail provided. Develop a clear overview and describe the main changes accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening, an overview, and a paragraph beginning “Firstly.” Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Firstly,” and “As well as” show an effort to connect ideas. However, the progression is difficult to follow because several changes are grouped together without a clear order or comparison between 2000 and today. The final sentence repeats the general idea that changes occurred rather than summarising the main developments. Some connections are also unclear, as in “Additionaly, the cafes and shops is build behind the lifeboat amd the eoad is agaties just like the past.” Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key changes, and organise details by location or by what was replaced, relocated, or added.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “harbour,” “castle,” “hotel,” “car parking,” “fishing,” and “marina,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several spelling errors make the description harder to understand: “harbous,” “infracture,” “repleshing,” “vistier,” and “Additionaly.” Some word choices are also inaccurate or imprecise, such as “two different dock” and “boart in the beatch”; the map shows an additional jetty and boats at the dock, not a boat on the beach. Aim for precise map vocabulary and check spelling. Alternatives such as “facilities,” “relocated,” and “replaced” would help describe the changes more accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt a few different sentence openings, including “Overall,” “Firstly,” and “As well as,” but most sentences rely on simple structures, and errors are frequent enough to make some relationships unclear. For example, “the changes on the place is” has faulty agreement and sentence construction, while “the cafes and shops is build” uses an incorrect verb form and agreement. Articles and plurals are also problematic in “make a cafes and hotel” and “add an new boart.” The sentence “the fishing and marina place is change” does not form a clear grammatical description of the map changes. Practise accurate past and present passive forms, such as “the castle was replaced by a hotel,” and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
