Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response provides a clear overview and identifies the main changes, such as the relocation of the yacht/fishing blocks and the conversion of the castle into a hotel. However, the description of the layout is somewhat confusing. For example, stating that the layout 'remained unchanged' while simultaneously listing numerous additions and relocations is contradictory. While the key features are addressed, the report lacks a precise comparison of the spatial changes, and the claim that the 'public beach was converted into private beach' is a significant detail that is well-noted, but the overall summary could be more analytical regarding the transformation of the harbour's function.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward use of 'While, some extra same features...' and 'However, castle was replaced...'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when describing the location of facilities (e.g., 'in north side public beach'). While the overall arrangement is coherent, the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors and imprecise linking words, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the changes clearly enough to be understood. There are attempts to use specific terminology like 'relocated', 'reconstructed', and 'converted'. However, there is a lack of variety and some imprecise word choices, such as 'lifeboat place' instead of 'lifeboat station' or 'yachts block' instead of 'yacht berths'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and the student relies on basic descriptors. To improve, the student should focus on more precise collocations related to urban planning and map descriptions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Issues include missing articles ('the' castle, 'the' public beach), incorrect preposition usage ('in north side'), and awkward phrasing ('to each others locations'). Subject-verb agreement and sentence construction are inconsistent. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of minor errors in basic grammar prevents the response from achieving a higher score. More attention to articles and prepositions is required.
