Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the harbour plans, identifying key changes such as the relocation of the marina and fishing boats, the addition of shops, and the conversion of the castle into a hotel. However, the overview is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends. Some descriptions are slightly confusing, such as the claim that the marina and fishing boats 'exchange with same place' or the unclear reference to the 'lifeboat to hotel between road'. While the task is addressed, the reporting of information is not always precise or easy to follow, which limits the development of the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hampered by awkward phrasing and inconsistent use of cohesive devices. For example, the transition 'In addition, some places relocated with each other' is vague. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and some sentences are fragmented or run-on, making the progression of ideas feel mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the mention of 'it' in 'Dock are added and it is two in today plan', which makes it difficult for the reader to track the information being presented.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There is a reliance on basic verbs like 'added', 'replaced', and 'changed'. Some word choices are unnatural or inaccurate, such as 'all place' instead of 'all areas' or 'transfer to' instead of 'converted into'. The student attempts to describe the changes, but the lack of specific terminology for map descriptions (e.g., 'situated', 'demolished', 'constructed') limits the effectiveness of the communication. Spelling is generally accurate, but the range of vocabulary remains limited.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('castle is replaced by hotel'), subject-verb agreement errors ('Marina... are replaced'), and awkward sentence construction ('Lifeboat to hotel between road is added'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and missing capital letters at the start of sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
