IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show a harbour in 2000 and how it looks today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The maps compare the layout of Porth Harbour in 2000 along with some recent developments occurred in the area.

From an overall perspective, it is evident that the location underwent significant changes. The most noticeable change is that new cafes and shops has been opened and a hotel is constructed.

Looking first at Northwest corner of the map, the two car parks remained unchanged, while showers and toilets are developed in the western side. Interestingly, at the beginning of the period, the area near dock was occupied by marina, which now reserved by fishing boats. The main road and the another road did not underwent any changes.

Meanwhile, the cafes and shops are now introduced in the layout, which are located just along the area for lifeboat. The castle, which was disused previously, now knocked down and that area in transformed into the hotel. Moreover, the public beach has been converted into private beach, which is mainly for the hotel.
