Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the harbour and provided a clear comparison between the two time periods. You covered the key changes, such as the conversion of the castle, the addition of the cycle path, and the relocation of the marina and fishing boat areas. However, the report could be improved by providing a more cohesive overview in the introduction. While you mentioned the most noticeable change, a more comprehensive summary of the overall transformation would strengthen the response. The information is generally accurate, though some details, such as the specific locations, could be described with more precision to help the reader visualize the changes more effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of changes. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'whereas', 'likewise', and 'similarly', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more precise. For example, in the second paragraph, the transition between describing the dock and the parking areas feels slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would help to achieve a higher band score for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the changes, using terms like 'relocated', 'converted', and 'constructed'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'yatchs' (yachts), 'toiles' (toilets), and 'southern-east' (south-east). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'to till the date' or 'for individuals for come for fishing'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct spelling of technical terms related to the map. Expanding your vocabulary to include more varied verbs for describing change would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with articles ('the' sea, 'the' life boat) and prepositions. For instance, 'in the west part of the sea' should be 'in the western part of the harbour'. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and word order, such as 'shower and toiles were constructed'. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will help improve your score.
