Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response provides an overview of the changes, but it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While the main features are identified, the description is somewhat fragmented and lacks a clear, professional tone. The comparison between the two time periods is attempted, but the lack of sufficient detail and the failure to reach the minimum length means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive summary of the key changes and ensure your response meets the length requirement to allow for full development of the information presented in the diagrams.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as the phrase 'after that the place of marina'. The logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and sentence structure, making some parts of the description difficult to follow. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that transitions between sentences are smooth and logical. Improving the flow between the description of the harbour's features will significantly enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'today poth Harbour' and 'where their entrance gate is changed from south to waste'. The repetition of basic terms limits the range. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to maps and diagrams, such as 'relocated', 'transformed', 'expanded', or 'converted'. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and verbs will help you convey the changes more effectively and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('there is car park', 'there is cafes'), tense usage ('where their entrance gate is changed'), and word order. While some simple sentences are clear, the attempts at more complex structures often result in errors that can impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of articles, prepositions, and verb tenses. Proofreading your work for common errors like pluralisation and subject-verb agreement will help you achieve greater accuracy and clarity in your writing.
