Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the harbour in both 2000 and the present day. You provided a clear overview and made relevant comparisons, such as the demolition of the castle and the expansion of the docks. However, the response lacks precision in describing the spatial layout. For instance, you mention '2 parking slots' and a 'marine', but fail to describe their locations relative to other features. To reach a higher band, ensure you use specific directional language (e.g., 'to the north of', 'adjacent to') to help the reader visualize the changes. The summary is generally accurate, but some details, like the 'import and export of lodgings', are unclear.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the past to the present. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Secondly', and 'Overall' to structure your argument. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For example, the sentence 'In that year there were 2 parking slots with a significant parameter beside the main road' is confusing. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as the use of 'it' in 'it mobilize visitors', where the antecedent is not immediately obvious. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'refurbishment', 'infrastructure', and 'demolished'. However, there are several instances of inaccurate word choice and collocation that impede clarity. For example, 'shipments working related to import and export of lodgings' is semantically incorrect, as lodgings are not typically shipped. Similarly, 'significant parameter' is misused in this context. You also use 'marine' when you likely meant 'marina'. While you attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary, these errors suggest a need for more precise control over word choice to convey your meaning effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('castle was demolished and a hotel is made'), tense inconsistency ('had came up'), and awkward phrasing ('the redevelopment is turned out to be'). Some sentences are grammatically incomplete or confusing, such as 'Whereas certain shower and toilets construct to maintain integrity with the visitors.' While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. Focusing on basic sentence construction and verb tense consistency will help improve your score.
