Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the harbour's transformation, such as the addition of amenities and the changes in docking facilities. However, the description is somewhat confusing, particularly in the paragraph regarding the 'second turn' and 'first turn,' which does not clearly reflect the visual data. While the main changes are identified, the lack of clarity in reporting these comparisons prevents a higher score. The overview is present but could be more precise in summarizing the overall trend of modernization and expansion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'On the second turn.' The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track which part of the harbour is being described. The progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed, particularly in the final paragraph where the description of the hotel and castle becomes repetitive and hard to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, using terms like 'modernized,' 'amenities,' and 'private yachts.' However, there are instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'avalible' (spelling error) and 'on same on same place.' The range is limited, and the student relies on basic descriptors rather than more precise terminology for describing geographical changes or structural developments. More variety in reporting verbs and spatial prepositions would improve the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('on the West side of porth harbour'), subject-verb agreement issues, and awkward sentence construction ('The road ends on hotel which is replaced with castle'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text and demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures.
