Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the harbour, such as the conversion of the castle into a hotel, the relocation of boat facilities, and the addition of new infrastructure. You provided a clear overview and made relevant comparisons between the two time periods. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide more precise descriptions of the locations. For instance, instead of saying 'new showers and toilets are constructed', specify their location relative to the car park more clearly. Additionally, ensure that all changes are described with consistent tense usage, as the task requires a comparison between a past state and the present.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group related changes. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the transition between the description of the harbour's facilities and the road infrastructure is smoother. Paragraphing is present, but the body paragraphs could be more balanced in length to improve the overall structure of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the changes, such as 'renovated', 'constructed', and 'private beach'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'underwent through' (should be 'underwent') and 'road that is connected from' (should be 'road connecting'). To improve, focus on using more precise verbs and nouns related to urban development and map description. Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but incorporating more sophisticated, topic-specific terminology would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'The given plans below illustrates' (subject-verb agreement error: should be 'illustrate') and 'is accesed' (spelling error: 'accessed'). Additionally, there are some awkward phrasings like 'the road that is connected from the main road extending to the car park is closed'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for spelling. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help you move into the higher band range.
