Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by identifying some changes between the two plans, such as the addition of cafes, shops, and hotels. However, the report is significantly underdeveloped. It fails to provide a clear overview of the most significant changes, such as the expansion of the marina or the reconfiguration of the road layout. The description is fragmented and lacks a logical structure, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison. Key features are mentioned in a disjointed manner, and the lack of precise reporting on the spatial changes limits the score. To improve, you should group information logically (e.g., infrastructure vs. facilities) and provide a clear summary of the main trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks a clear paragraph structure, which makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. While there are some attempts at linking ideas, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often inaccurate, such as 'As it is presented' and 'In the also present'. The sentences are often run-on or lack proper punctuation, which disrupts the flow of information. There is no clear introduction or conclusion, and the lack of paragraphing makes the text appear as a single, dense block of information. Improving the use of transition words and organizing the report into distinct paragraphs would significantly enhance the clarity of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'things', 'look', and 'change'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'last passing years' instead of 'the past two decades' and 'no any refreshment place'. The student struggles to use precise terminology related to maps or urban development, such as 'marina', 'berths', or 'infrastructure'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the frequent errors in collocation prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding your vocabulary to include more descriptive and academic terms is essential.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede the reader's understanding. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The plans gives', 'they have no provide'), incorrect word order, and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple and often contain errors in construction, such as 'In the today harbour cafes and shops but 2000 harbour there a no any refreshment place'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent, which further complicates the reading process. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be a good starting point for improvement.
