Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response provides an overview of the changes, but it fails to cover the entire task. You described the 2000 layout in detail but did not describe the 'today' layout, which is a critical requirement of the prompt. The overview is present, but the lack of information regarding the current state of the harbour means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure you provide a balanced comparison between the two time periods, highlighting the key transformations rather than just listing the initial features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by the incomplete nature of the report. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'while' and 'next to', but they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly (e.g., 'while, dock is located'). The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial layout of the harbour. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring a clear transition between the two time periods would significantly enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several word-choice errors, such as 'For the hygiene purpose' instead of 'For sanitary purposes' and 'peoples' instead of 'people'. You rely on basic descriptors like 'attached to' and 'next to'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more specific vocabulary related to urban planning or geographical features, such as 'situated', 'adjacent to', 'transformed', or 'redeveloped'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The 2 plans depicts', 'harbour has undergoes') and incorrect verb tenses. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors, such as 'one in the west and other is on the south side'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalisation. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would help improve your accuracy.
