Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some key features of the harbour, such as the expansion of the dock area and the conversion of the castle, the report lacks sufficient detail and depth. Several areas are mentioned only briefly, and the comparison between the two maps is underdeveloped. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview of all significant changes and meet the length requirement to allow for a full development of the main features.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. The paragraphing is insufficient, and the flow of ideas is somewhat disjointed. While there is an attempt at an overview, the transition between the description of the 2000 harbour and the current layout is abrupt. You rely on basic linking, and the use of cohesive devices is limited. To improve, use clear paragraph breaks to separate your introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Incorporate a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'in contrast,' 'furthermore,' or 'subsequently' to guide the reader through your comparisons more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several spelling errors, such as 'passangers,' 'ares,' 'adjesent,' 'lifebaot,' and 'yachat.' Additionally, some word choices are imprecise, such as 'replaced with each other.' To improve, focus on using more specific terminology related to maps and urban development, such as 'transformed,' 'relocated,' or 'expanded.' Proofreading for spelling and ensuring correct collocations will also help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The given map shows that how Porth Harbour looks,' 'Porth Harbour havingvery smal area,' and 'The road alonge the b and beach which connected by the road.' These errors involve issues with articles, verb tense consistency, and sentence construction. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of relative clauses. Practicing basic sentence structure will help reduce the frequency of these errors.
