Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While the main features are identified, such as the conversion of the castle to a hotel and the addition of amenities, the analysis is superficial. The report lacks a clear overview of the major trends, and the information is presented in a fragmented manner. To improve, you must provide a more detailed description of the changes and ensure the response meets the length requirement to allow for a comprehensive summary of the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is written as a single paragraph, which lacks the necessary structure for an IELTS Task 1 report. There is no clear logical progression or paragraphing. While some cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'Additionally' and 'According to', the flow is disjointed. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial changes described. To improve, you should organize your response into a clear introduction, an overview of the main trends, and separate paragraphs for specific details, using a wider range of linking words to connect your ideas more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are several inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'represent many differences' and 'serve to public'. The phrasing 'before and after 2000 years' is also unnatural. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band score. You should focus on using more accurate terminology for describing maps, such as 'undergone transformation', 'replaced by', or 'converted into', and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'few places have been changed their names' (incorrect passive voice) and 'The new hotel which has been replaced the old castle' (incorrect relative clause). There is a lack of variety in sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering the passive voice for describing changes in maps and ensure that your sentence construction is grammatically sound. Practicing the use of complex sentences with correct relative clauses and conjunctions will help improve your score in this criterion.
