Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the harbour plans, such as the addition of cafes, shops, and docks. However, the information is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, you state that the showers and toilets have not changed, yet you immediately contradict this by saying they decreased from two to one. Furthermore, the description of the road and the relocation of the fishing boats is unclear. To improve, you must ensure that the data reported matches the visual evidence precisely and that you provide a clear overview of the most significant changes rather than listing details in a disjointed manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or incorrect, such as 'In Addition to' used at the start of a sentence or 'then after' to indicate sequence. Referencing is also problematic; for instance, 'that' at the end of the sentence about cafes is vague and does not clearly link to the previous information. The overall flow is hindered by these structural issues, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two time periods.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic verbs like 'added' and 'changed' throughout the text. There are also several instances of incorrect word choice and spelling errors, such as 'videly' (widely), 'atached' (attached), and 'conected' (connected). The phrasing 'this is a comparisons char' is also non-standard. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to describing maps and changes, such as 'transformed,' 'relocated,' or 'expanded,' and ensure that your spelling is accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'showers and toilets is a not any changesh' and 'the dock is only one'. The use of tenses is also inconsistent; you mix present tense with future forms like 'will be add' or 'will be included' when describing a static map comparison. Sentence structures are generally simple, and the lack of control over basic grammar significantly affects the readability of the report.
