Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to address the core requirement of the task: comparing the harbour in 2000 with how it looks today. The student describes the layout of the harbour as if it were a single static image, completely ignoring the 'today' aspect and the significant changes that occurred over time. Furthermore, the description is highly informal and lacks an overview of the main trends or developments. The response reads more like a guided tour than a formal academic report, failing to select and report the main features as requested in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response lacks paragraphing, appearing as a single, dense block of text. The progression of ideas is confusing, relying on repetitive and informal phrases like 'as we enter' and 'as we head towards'. There is a lack of logical sequencing; the description jumps between locations without a clear spatial or thematic structure. Cohesive devices are either missing or used in a very mechanical and repetitive manner, which makes the text difficult to follow. The conclusion is also informal and does not effectively summarize the information.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive, often relying on informal phrasing such as 'plent of rooms' and 'That,s all about this map'. There are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'Earlu', 'tiwaos', 'tyhe', 'oppssite') and incorrect word choices that hinder the clarity of the description. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the features of a map or harbour accurately. There is no attempt to use academic or descriptive language appropriate for a report, and the tone remains conversational throughout.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles, incorrect verb tenses, and poor punctuation. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, such as 'The harbour names Porth Harbour In 2000 As We look upto the map its shows a plent of rooms'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the control over basic grammar is weak. Punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization, which significantly impacts the readability of the response.
