Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you identify some key features such as the hotel, the private beach, and the toilets, the description is incomplete and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. The analysis of the changes is somewhat superficial, and the abrupt ending suggests the task was not fully completed. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the main trends and describe all significant changes shown in the diagrams, such as the expansion of the marina and the addition of new facilities, while ensuring you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks a clear paragraph structure, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'overall' and 'furthermore', the flow is often disjointed. The sentences are not well-linked, and the lack of proper paragraphing makes the text appear as a single, dense block. To improve, organize your writing into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on specific features. Use a wider range of linking words such as 'in contrast', 'subsequently', or 'whereas' to connect your ideas more logically and improve the overall readability of your report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. Phrases like 'less development of showers' and 'modernised years' are unnatural and do not accurately describe the changes in the harbour. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'shuffle with each others location', which is confusing. To reach a higher band, you should use more precise vocabulary related to describing maps and changes, such as 'expanded', 'converted', 'relocated', or 'demolished'. Focus on using collocations correctly and avoid repeating simple words. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and verbs will help you convey the information more effectively and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('diagrams illustrates', 'number of ships are') and article usage ('the modern era', 'a private beach'). Sentence structures are generally simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. The punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around punctuation marks. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement. Try to incorporate a mix of simple and complex sentences by using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions. Proofreading your work for basic errors in tense and pluralization will also help to improve the accuracy of your writing.
