Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the harbour's transformation, such as the addition of tourist facilities and the relocation of the marina. However, the overview is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear, concise summary of the most significant changes. While the response identifies key developments like the hotel and private beach, the description of the layout is occasionally confusing, particularly regarding the northern side, which is described as 'same as 2000' despite the visual evidence of changes. To reach a higher band, ensure the overview highlights the most striking trends (e.g., the shift from industrial/functional to tourist-oriented) rather than just listing individual features.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by a lack of effective cohesive devices. Sentences are often strung together with 'and' or 'but', making the progression feel mechanical. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as when the text jumps between different sides of the harbour without clear transition markers. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two time periods smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'develop the cafe' and 'make stay there' are unnatural. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'harbbour', 'adject', and 'fishish', which distract the reader. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'marina', 'demolished', and 'relocated', the overall range is limited. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common descriptive terms related to maps and urban development.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The two plans illustrates', 'changes have been take place') and article usage. Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often marred by errors in tense or word order. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect capitalization. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of basic errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on consistent verb tenses and basic sentence construction would be highly beneficial.
