Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified some key features of the harbour, such as the new facilities and the relocation of boats, the analysis is quite brief. You have not provided a clear overview or summary of the main trends, and the description of the changes is somewhat fragmented. To improve, ensure you provide a clear introductory summary and expand on the details of the changes to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive report of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks a clear paragraph structure, which makes the progression of ideas feel disjointed. While there is a basic attempt to group information, the lack of cohesive devices makes the transition between sentences feel mechanical. For example, the jump from discussing the car park to the boats and then to the south side developments lacks logical flow. Using linking words such as 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently' would help guide the reader through the changes more effectively. Improving the use of paragraphing to separate different areas of the harbour would also enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, with some inaccuracies in word choice. For instance, 'yarts' appears to be a misspelling of 'yachts', and 'top noticing' is not a natural collocation. Phrases like 'providing tourists good food' are functional but basic. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to maps and changes, such as 'expanded', 'converted', 'relocated', or 'transformed'. Additionally, ensure you proofread for spelling errors, as these can distract the reader and impact the clarity of your report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('number of... increases') and article usage ('the harbour', 'a new ones'). Sentence structures are generally simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Errors such as 'changes occured' (spelling) and 'faciliting toursits' (spelling/grammar) occur frequently. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb tenses. Incorporating a wider variety of complex structures, such as relative clauses or passive voice, would also help demonstrate a higher level of grammatical control.
