Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the main changes shown in the two maps of Porth harbour in 2000 and the present day. While the writer identifies some key features—such as the addition of cafes and shops in the southern part, the separation of the marina and fishing boats, and the altered car park entrance connecting to the main road—the overview of general trends is missing, and several descriptions are vague or unclear. For instance, the expression 'three boat park' lacks precision when describing the current dock facilities. Furthermore, the response is somewhat disjointed in covering all parts of the visual data. Overall, the performance aligns with the Band 5 descriptors, as it addresses the task partially and lacks a fully clear progression of main features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organised into four paragraphs, which shows an attempt to structure the comparison between 2000 and the present day. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts and a lack of clear cohesive devices. Referencing is often confusing, as seen in phrases like 'same as per last but just noe car parking entery'. Paragraphing is used, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is faulty and mechanical, making it difficult to follow the spatial relationships on the map. There is also an over-reliance on basic conjunctions and repetitive structural patterns. These characteristics correspond closely to the Band 5 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a very limited range of vocabulary with frequent errors in spelling and word choice that occasionally impede communication. Examples of spelling and lexical inaccuracies include 'ilustartes', 'devlopment', 'cafe's', 'aslo', 'enternes', and 'entery'. While the writer attempts to use some less common terms like 'marina' and 'fishing boats', the overall lexical control is weak. There is a lack of precision in describing geographical features and structural changes. Because the vocabulary is restricted and noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader, this output fits the Band 4.5 to Band 5 range, leaning towards a Band 5 for a minimally adequate range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The writing contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent structural faults. Complex sentences are attempted, such as 'Today a several devlopment can be seen such as cafe's and shops have added...', but they are heavily flawed and ungrammatical. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement ('a several devlopment can be seen', 'Showers & toilets are top ot the north'), tense usage, and punctuation. The high frequency of grammatical errors often strains the reader and restricts the text to a Band 4 level, where errors are frequent and impede the clear communication of meaning.
