Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by highlighting several changes between the year 2000 and the present day, such as the swapped locations of fishing boats and marinas, the construction of a new dock, and the transformation of the disused castle into a hotel. However, the overview is extremely basic, and some details are vague or inaccurate (for instance, stating there was only one shower and toilet block when two existed in 2000). While the main features are touched upon, the lack of a clear overall trend and under-development of certain comparisons place this performance at a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is divided into rudimentary paragraphs ("On the one hand...", "On the other hand..."), which creates some basic structural organisation. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward referencing and phrasing. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes incorrectly, such as "we illustrates that places that are changed now" and "we explain about the that places that are added now". Paragraphing is attempted, but overall cohesion is faulty and repetitive, justifying a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and repetitive. The student uses basic vocabulary such as "places", "things", and "change". There are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as "porth" instead of Porth, "Merina" instead of Marina, and incorrect lexical collocations like "replace their place". While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about the diagram, these frequent errors and the lack of precise task-specific terminology result in a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement issues ("there are only one showers and toilets block", "things that are change"), awkward phrasing ("the place that named is Castle"), and incorrect relative clauses. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar score from reaching Band 6.0, leading to a Band 5.0.
