Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to highlight several features from the maps, the overview is extremely fragmented and lacks clarity, stating vaguely that "the changes in showers & toilets along with the main road. Private beach are opened for the hotel." The body paragraphs try to contrast the layout between 2000 and today, but key information is confused or inaccurately reported, such as claiming that fishing boats and the marina are placed in the same place when significant positional shifts occurred. Ideas are generally limited and under-developed, with a lack of a cohesive summary of the major transformations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation attempted through chronological sequencing markers like "Firstly" and "Secondly," but the response lacks an overall clear progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences within paragraphs often feel disjointed and repetitive, such as the multiple disjointed mentions of public beaches. Cohesive devices are mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, and referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the spatial relationships between the various harbour features across the two time periods.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as "car parkings," "uper in northeast," and "coverted to hotel." Spelling and word form errors, including "Overll" and "horbour," are present. While the student attempts to use some task-specific terminology from the prompt such as "passenger ferries," "lifeboat," and "private yachts," the overall range is restricted and repetitive, causing some difficulty for the reader in places.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex or passive forms that are often faulty, such as "porth horbour of today are upgraded, they built showers & toilets" and "Although their are many new additions in today porth harbour." There are frequent errors in verb forms, plurals, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions throughout the text, including "Castle are present" and "Two public beachs." These frequent errors frequently cause difficulty and strain for the reader.
