Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially, attempting to compare the harbour maps from 2000 and the present day. An overview is attempted at the beginning stating there are not too many changes in the main structure, but many small changes in design. However, the position and reporting of specific features are limited and lack clarity. For instance, the student mentions that the marina and fishing boats swapped places, and notes the replacement of the disused castle with a hotel and the conversion of the public beach into a private one. Nevertheless, the description lacks precision and several details are confusingly expressed or under-developed, preventing a more complete reporting of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation attempted through paragraphing, but overall progression is lacking, and the response feels disjointed. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and repetitive manner, such as frequent reliance on transitions like 'Also', 'After thet', and 'In the north side'. Referencing is not always clear, making it difficult to follow the spatial relationships between the various locations on the map. The paragraphing structure is also fragmented, with many short, disconnected sentences that impede the logical flow of information from one feature to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors and issues with word formation, such as 'ilustrate' instead of 'illustrate', 'compir' instead of 'compared', 'strucer' instead of 'structure', and 'sapret' instead of 'separate'. Word choice is often awkward or imprecise, for example, 'they have no to much change' and 'very mach withe each other'. These errors occur frequently and cause some difficulty for the reader in fully grasping the intended meaning, reflecting a restricted control of word choice and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. The majority of sentences are simple or contain faulty attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including incorrect verb tenses and forms ('they have no to much change', 'hapen', 'can be replace', 'is complitly redigine', 'is bild'), missing or incorrect prepositions ('in now days', 'in the west south side'), and article errors. These frequent errors distract from the content and require effort from the reader to interpret, though basic meaning is occasionally conveyed.
