Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response makes a limited attempt to describe the harbour plans, mentioning the marina, beach, dock, ferries, car parks and hotel. However, it does not clearly summarise the main changes or give a reliable overview. For example, it says the harbour today is “the same like 2000” and that there is an “extra dock,” but the key changes include the marina and fishing-boat areas switching locations, new cafés and shops, and the disused castle being replaced by a hotel with a private beach. Several details are unclear or unsupported, such as claims about family gatherings, sunset views and paying rent. Focus on observable features and compare the two plans directly, rather than describing imagined visitor experiences.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an opening and separate paragraphs for 2000 and today. This gives the reader some indication of the intended sequence. However, ideas within the paragraphs are difficult to follow: the first paragraph moves rapidly between the beach, road, parking, showers, marina, dock and lifeboat without clear relationships, while the final paragraph combines the dock, ferries, hotel and beach in a few loosely connected statements. Linking phrases such as “First of all” and “The major point” are present, but they do not establish clear comparisons or progression. Group features by location or type of change, and use explicit contrasts such as “whereas” and “by contrast” to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response attempts some task-related vocabulary, including “Marina for private yachts,” “Passenger ferries,” “car park” and “private beach.” These terms show awareness of the map’s subject. However, vocabulary is often inaccurate, repetitive or difficult to interpret, as in “mainy enjoyeable,” “beautiful view in lifeboat” and “the demand for public.” Spelling errors such as “habour,” “differnce” and “minar” also reduce clarity. Some expressions describe opinions or activities rather than map features, for example “enjoy with your family.” Build a precise set of words for describing locations and changes, and check spelling and collocations before using them. Prefer neutral descriptions such as “was relocated” or “was replaced by.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts longer sentences and some comparisons, but grammatical control is inconsistent and errors frequently make the intended relationships unclear. For example, “Porth harbour are the two main graph diference” has problems with sentence structure and subject–verb agreement, while “Porth harbour today in as the same like 2000” does not form a clear comparison. Articles, plurals and verb forms are also unreliable, as in “Beach are near” and “ferries are increase.” Most sentences are extended by joining many ideas, with little punctuation to show how they relate. Practise writing short, complete sentences first, then combine related points using accurate clauses. Check agreement, tense and sentence boundaries when describing what changed between 2000 and today.
