Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You provide a basic overall impression that the harbour has become more modern and better equipped, and you mention changes for visitors and boats. However, the response only minimally reports the map information: it does not describe the key changes in location and land use, such as the marina and fishing boats switching areas, the addition of cafés and shops, or the castle becoming a hotel and the beach becoming private. The statements that there are two ferries in 2000 and three today are not supported by the maps, which show boats at the dock but do not establish those ferry counts. The response is also six words below the required minimum. To improve, select and accurately compare several specific features, supported by an overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for 2000 and today. This gives the reader a basic sense of time order, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Today” help signal the stages. However, progression within the paragraphs is weak because the discussion stays general rather than moving through clearly selected map features. Some ideas are repeated, particularly that the harbour is more modern and attractive to visitors, while links between claims are limited. The sentence “New area services and have been added make more attractive to visitors” also disrupts the flow. Organise the body around specific changes—such as facilities, water areas, and the southern shore—and use clear comparisons to connect them.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “harbour,” “facilities,” “passenger ferries,” and “leisure activities,” and you attempt to describe development with words such as “modern” and “improved.” However, the range is limited and several spelling errors are noticeable, including “repersent,” “apperance,” “visistors,” “devolped,” and “tourisem.” Some word choices and combinations are also inaccurate or unclear, such as “New area services” and “more suitable places for tourisem.” These errors make parts of the description difficult to understand and reduce precision. Build a bank of map vocabulary and practise accurate collocations, for example “visitor facilities,” “the marina was relocated,” and “the castle was replaced by a hotel.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the basic time contrast between 2000 and today is generally understandable. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently. For example, “The first map show” has subject–verb disagreement, while “New area services and have been added make more attractive” is structurally incomplete and obscures the intended meaning. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, as in “the Porth Harbour had” and “There are two passenger ferries at Dock.” Several sentences run together without a space after the full stop. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles, and punctuation before submitting.
