Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the exchange of the marina and fishing-boat areas, the addition of cafés and shops, and the replacement of the disused castle with a hotel. You also note that the southern beach becomes private. However, the overview is unclear and partly conflicts with your details: you say there are “not major changings,” although the harbour’s facilities and uses have changed substantially. Some descriptions are imprecise, such as “a ship on the dock,” and the claim that cafés and shops are “on opposite side of the lifeboat” does not clearly match their position beside it. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview of the main transformations, then describe the northern and southern areas accurately and comparatively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response includes an opening, a general summary, and a concluding sentence, so there is some attempt to organise the information. However, the ideas do not progress clearly: the overview runs into a long sequence of individual changes, followed by a conclusion that repeats earlier points. Linking is limited, and phrases such as “The above diagram given” and “The new diagram shows” do not help distinguish the two time periods. Grouping details by location or by changes between 2000 and today would make the comparison easier to follow. Use clear paragraph breaks and connect related changes—for example, describe the northern dock and facilities together, then the southern marina, road, and beach.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “marina,” “lifeboat,” “dock,” and “private beach,” which helps communicate the map’s features. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “changing happened,” “many changings,” “add on of another,” and “lookalike.” Repetition of “addition” and “new” also makes the description less precise. Choose standard map-description language and use verbs such as “was added,” “was relocated,” and “was converted into.” Take care with word forms and spelling too: “Habour” is misspelled, and “cafe” should be written as “cafés” or “cafes.” More precise vocabulary would make the changes clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few longer structures, including “The public beach near the castle back in 2000 is now replaced with private beach,” but sentence control is weak and errors occur throughout. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “The given two diagram illustrates” and “the map given below show,” incorrect tense in “is now replaced,” and missing articles in “with private beach” and “with castle.” Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops and commas, while the final sentence has a faulty construction: “there are only addition.” These errors sometimes make relationships between features difficult to understand. Practise accurate past-to-present comparisons and build sentences around clear subjects and verbs before adding detail.
