Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The plans illustrates changes in the Porth harbour's layout from the year 2000 to the current date.
Overall, the harbour has got some additional facilities for the visitors in recent times. Moreover, it seems to be serving the private and paying visitors the most with the recent changes incorporated such as larger Marina and private beach space etc.
Firstly, Porth harbour has got another showers and toilets area near the southern car park facility, as there was empty space. Additionally, locations of fishing boats facility and marina have been swaped with each other, since there has been more space for private yachts have been provided at south-west end of the harbour.
Furthermore, the harbour has got new cafes and shops on the west of the lifeboat space. Subsequently, the major development in harbour is of creation of hotel, replacing the site occpied by the castle in year 2000; Therfore, the beach near on the south of harbour is also accessible by private individuals satying in the hotel, rather being available for general public touring the harbour.
Lastly, some places in harbour at their original places till now as they were in year 2000. For instance, car parks, lifeboat space, public beach area on north-east of harbour, and the dock for passenger ferries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the main transformation clearly: the marina and fishing-boat areas exchange locations, a hotel replaces the disused castle, and the southern beach becomes private. The overview also captures the shift towards facilities for paying visitors, and you mention additions such as cafés and shops and another showers-and-toilets block. These are relevant, well-selected features and address the task. Some details, however, are imprecise: the new facilities are not simply “near the southern car park,” and the marina is relocated to the southern water area rather than described as a larger marina. Your statement that car parks remain in their original places is also inaccurate, as the southern car park is replaced by the marina. More precise location comparisons would strengthen the account.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response is organised into a brief introduction, an overview and three body paragraphs, with a generally logical progression from general changes to specific developments and retained features. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Additionally,” and “Furthermore” help signal the relationships between points, and the final paragraph usefully contrasts unchanged features with the redevelopment. At times, however, the sequencing and connections are less clear: “Subsequently” does not express the relationship between the cafés and the hotel, while “Lastly” introduces a list that includes a car park incorrectly presented as unchanged. Grouping the changes by location and using clearer references to the northern and southern areas would make the progression more precise and cohesive.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of map-related vocabulary, including “layout,” “replacing,” “accessible,” and “private beach,” and the reader can understand the main changes. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “facilities for the visitors” and “major development.” However, several choices are awkward or imprecise: “larger Marina” is unsupported by the map, “private individuals” is not a natural way to describe hotel guests, and “space” is repeated where more specific terms such as area or site would help. Spelling errors in “swaped,” “occpied,” “Therfore,” and “satying” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “since,” “as,” and “rather than,” and most of the intended meaning remains understandable. Some grammatical errors nevertheless recur. The opening should be “The plans illustrate,” and “another showers and toilets area” needs a singular or plural construction such as “another showers-and-toilets facility.” In “more space for private yachts have been provided,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the sentence structure is awkward. The final comparison also needs a clearer construction, for example, “rather than being available to the general public.” Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and parallel structures, and proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
