Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given diagrams shows the current look of porth harbour after the transfromation and how it looked in 2000.
Overall, porth harbour undergoes different developlments over the time period. New public facilities were introduced, some eixisting places were swapped in location, new parking links for vehicles and reusing of disused castle were the most important transformations.
In 2000, there was a single docking unit, but today one more area for dock exist, while keeping the public beach same. A cafes and shops area established next to the lifeboat in castle arean which wasn't in 2000. Finshing boats and Marina private yachts reamined unchanged, however, they were relocated with each other's palces. In 2000, there was only single unit for showers & toilets, but one more unit constructed behind the marina site. The most significant chage in harbor was using the disused castle as hotel; converting the public beach next to the castle into private peroperty for the hotel. The car parking area linked with castle road in 2000, now attached with the main road.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the main changes and provide a clear overview, including the relocation of the marina and fishing boats, the addition of cafés and shops, and the conversion of the castle and nearby beach for hotel use. These are relevant, well-selected features and show a good understanding of the plans. However, a few details are inaccurate or imprecise: the dock is not a new area, but gains an additional jetty and a second berthed boat; the beach that remains public is the north-eastern one, rather than simply “the public beach”; and the car parks are not described clearly as being newly linked to the main road. For stronger coverage, distinguish the two beaches and report the dock and car-park changes more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph describing individual changes. The overview also helps the reader understand the broad pattern before the details. However, the final paragraph moves between the dock, facilities, boats, castle and car park without a clear spatial or thematic order, so the progression is not always easy to follow. Some linking is also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “In 2000” and “but today.” Grouping changes by location—for example, the northern harbour, southern basin and south-eastern shore—and using clearer references such as “the northern beach” would make the relationships between details easier to track.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-appropriate vocabulary, including “relocated,” “established,” “converted” and “disused castle,” which helps describe changes over time. There is also an attempt to vary expressions for development and replacement. However, several spelling errors—such as “transfromation,” “developlments,” “Finshing” and “chage”—are noticeable, and some phrases are awkward or imprecise, including “single docking unit,” “new parking links for vehicles” and “private peroperty.” These choices sometimes make the intended map feature less clear. Aim for accurate, conventional map vocabulary and check spelling carefully; terms such as “jetty,” “car park” and “private beach” would describe the features more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of sentence forms, including a contrast with “while” and a relative clause in “which wasn’t in 2000.” However, errors in agreement, articles and verb forms occur across the response. For example, “The given diagrams shows” should use a plural verb, while “A cafes and shops area established” needs a corrected article and verb construction. “Finshing boats and Marina private yachts reamined unchanged” also has agreement and tense problems, and the final phrase beginning “converting the public beach” is not a complete sentence. These errors can make some relationships difficult to interpret. Practise building accurate full sentences first, then add complex clauses while checking subject–verb agreement and tense consistency.
