Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several important changes, including the relocation of the fishing boats and marina, the addition of cafés and shops, and the replacement of the castle with a hotel. However, the response only partially reports the maps: it lacks a clear overview of the main transformation, and some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the 2000 map shows one dock with a boat, not “two passenger ferries”; today, the dock has an additional jetty and two boats. The beaches are also misreported: the southern beach becomes private, while the north-eastern public beach remains. To strengthen the report, summarise the overall shift towards more visitor facilities, then describe the key changes by area using precise comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response follows a broadly sensible time sequence, first describing 2000 and then the present, and uses basic linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “In addition.” This gives the reader some sense of how the maps are being compared. However, the information is packed into two long paragraphs, with several ideas joined by repeated “and,” so relationships between features are not always clear. The opening does not provide a distinct overview, and the second paragraph moves rapidly from roads to facilities, boats, and the hotel. Use a clear overview followed by one paragraph for the earlier layout and one for the main changes, grouping related features and using more precise referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “public beaches,” “car park,” “main road,” “fishing boats,” and “private beach,” and you attempt to describe change with “replaced” and “increased.” This gives you a basic range for the task. However, several phrases are imprecise or awkward, such as “two ways of main road,” “the number of dock,” and “the number of showers and toilets are increase.” Repetition of “there is” and “present” also limits variety, while “from 2000 to till today” is not a natural time expression. Choose accurate terms for map changes—for example, facilities were added, relocated, or converted—and check collocations and word forms so the reader can identify each change easily.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to combine information using longer sentences and time references, but the range of structures is limited and many sentences contain errors that make the relationships between features difficult to follow. Examples include “there are two public beaches was present,” “there was a two car parking,” and “the number of showers and toilets are increase.” These show problems with tense, subject–verb agreement, articles, and singular/plural forms. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly where several clauses are joined with “and.” Practise writing shorter, controlled comparisons first, such as “The southern public beach has become a private beach for the hotel,” then combine ideas only when the grammar remains clear.
