Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The plans shows how porth harbour looked in 2000 and how it has changed up to the present date.
Overall, the main road remained unchanged over the period. However, showers and toilets being same from 2000 to till now. Meanwhile, both fishing boats and marina exchanged locations, while new cafes and shops were built near lifeboat station.
In 2000, marina (private yachts) were located in the north direction while fishing boats situated in the south both shifted locations. Over the period, these facilities changed their locations, whereas lifeboat, car park and showers & toilets, remained unchanged.
Furthermore, castle (disused) was replaced by hotel. In addition, one more dock was added near to passenger ferries. Another noticeable change was public beach near hotel was replaced by private beach for the hotel. A new cafes and shops was constructed near marine. These changes made the area more suitable for tourists attraction and for local businesses.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify several important changes, including the relocation of the marina and fishing boats, the replacement of the disused castle by a hotel, and the conversion of the southern public beach into a private hotel beach. The overview also notes that the main road stayed the same. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: showers and toilets were not simply unchanged, as an additional facility appears beside the marina, and the dock gained an additional jetty rather than “one more dock.” The statement that the beach “near hotel” was replaced also obscures that it is the beach south of the road. Your final claim about tourism and local businesses is plausible but not shown by the plans. More precise coverage of the added facilities and dock changes would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall shape: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Meanwhile,” and “Furthermore” help signal the progression, and the main comparisons are generally easy to follow. However, some connections are awkward or unclear. For example, “both fishing boats and marina exchanged locations” is followed by “both shifted locations,” repeating the same point, while “In 2000, marina … while fishing boats situated in the south both shifted locations” compresses several ideas into a confusing sentence. The final paragraph also moves quickly from the dock to the beach and then to tourism. Grouping changes by location or by what was added, removed, or relocated would create smoother progression and clearer referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of map-related vocabulary, including “remained unchanged,” “replaced,” “shifted locations,” and “near,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific terms, such as “private yachts” and “passenger ferries.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, however: “exchanged locations” is less natural than “swapped positions,” and “one more dock” misnames the additional jetty. “A new cafes and shops was constructed” contains an awkward word form and collocation, while “tourists attraction” is not idiomatic. Use precise labels from the map and check common combinations such as “tourist attraction” and “facilities were added.” This would improve accuracy while retaining your useful range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including contrast with “However” and “whereas,” and most of the intended meaning can be understood. Some grammatical errors remain. The opening should be “The plans show,” not “The plans shows,” and “marina … were located” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The sentence “However, showers and toilets being same from 2000 to till now” is not a complete clause; it needs a finite verb, for example, “The showers and toilets remained in the same area.” There are also article and number issues in “A new cafes and shops was constructed.” To progress, build complete sentences consistently and check agreement, articles, and singular/plural forms, especially when describing facilities and changes.
