Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main overall changes: the harbour’s basic layout remains, new facilities appear, and the marina and fishing-boat areas exchange locations. You also mention the hotel replacing the castle and the cafés and shops near the lifeboat. However, the report is incomplete and under-developed: it ends abruptly at “A new”, so the southern beach’s change to a private hotel beach and other changes to the dock are not reported. Some location descriptions are also unclear or inaccurate, such as saying the marina is “on the west side of dock.” The response is 23 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the limited coverage. Develop the overview and complete the comparison of the key changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic structure, with an opening, an overview and a paragraph describing changes, and the ideas about the road and the marina are broadly grouped together. However, progression is limited because the response stops mid-sentence at “A new”, leaving the final point unfinished. Connections between details are also sometimes unclear: “Marina … has swapped with fishing boats today” does not clearly explain which area each occupies, while “now it is occupying place” has an uncertain reference. The paragraphing is minimal, and the sequence does not systematically compare the northern and southern parts of the harbour. Use complete paragraphs and organise the report by location or by major change, with clear references to the two time periods.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “main road,” “car park,” “marina,” “fishing boats,” and “lifeboat,” and phrases such as “remained unchanged” and “added next to” communicate several changes. The range is nevertheless limited, with repeated reliance on “added” and “place,” and some collocations or descriptions are imprecise, including “swapped places” and “occupying place.” There are also noticeable spelling and form errors, such as “comapres” and “cafes” where the map label is “cafés.” Aim for more precise change language and accurate facility names; for example, describe facilities as “introduced” or “constructed,” and say that one area “was relocated to” another.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes some simple and compound sentence forms, such as “Marina and fishing boats swapped places,” and the main meaning is generally recoverable. However, grammatical errors are frequent enough to make some relationships difficult to follow. Examples include missing articles in “the structure of harbour” and “on west side,” missing auxiliary verbs in “Marina … has swapped,” and the agreement error “cafes & shops has been added.” The final fragment, “A new,” is incomplete, and punctuation is inconsistent, including the run-on spacing in “car parks.cafes.” Practise accurate articles, subject–verb agreement and complete sentence construction, then proofread punctuation and verb forms.
