Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several important changes, including the marina and fishing-boat areas switching locations, the addition of cafés and shops, and the disused castle becoming a hotel with a private beach. However, the report covers the plans only partially: it omits other notable changes, such as the added showers and toilets, the car-park arrangements, and the extra jetty and boat at the dock. Some details are unclear or inaccurate; for example, the cafés and shops are beside the lifeboat station along the road, not “behind the lifeboats.” The response is also 103 words, below the required 150, which limits the detail available. Develop a fuller overview and describe the main changes with clear, accurate locations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening, an overview beginning “Overall,” and a paragraph describing changes near the hotel and dock. This gives the reader some sense of the report’s direction. However, progression is limited: the first paragraph repeats the idea that the harbour has changed, and the final paragraph ends abruptly at “for f,” leaving a point unfinished. Connections between details are also weak, and phrases such as “There is added” do not clearly show how features relate to one another. Group the changes by area or by type, use clear linking phrases to compare the two plans, and ensure every sentence and paragraph is complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a harbour plan, including “marina,” “fishing area,” “dock,” “disused castle,” and “private beach.” These terms help identify the main features. However, the range is limited, and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand: “excatly,” “castel,” and “cafes” should be corrected, while “fishing area” is less precise than “fishing-boat area.” Phrases such as “very changes” and “improves” are also unsuitable or vague for a neutral map comparison. Build a more precise set of verbs and location phrases, such as “was relocated,” “was replaced by,” and “adjacent to,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few different sentence patterns, including a relative clause in “The road which is west side of hotel…” and a comparison in the overview. However, grammatical control is weak, and errors frequently make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “There a very changes,” “There is added a cafes,” and “The major changes is,” which show problems with sentence formation, articles, and subject–verb agreement. The clause about the road and cafés also lacks a clear grammatical structure, and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using controlled clauses. Check verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence completion before submitting.
