Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main transformation from a disused castle to a hotel and note that the southern beach became private, while also reporting the relocation of the marina and fishing boats. These are relevant, central comparisons, and your overview recognises both new facilities and retained features. The response also includes several specific details, such as the cafés and shops beside the lifeboat station. However, some points are incomplete or unclear: saying the car parks “remained unchanged” overlooks the added facilities around the southern car park, and the description of the showers and toilets does not clearly distinguish the two locations. The ferry detail is accurate but less significant than the changes to the harbour facilities. A more precise overview and fuller comparison of the main changes would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: it introduces the comparison, groups several changes in the middle, and ends with an overall statement. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is not consistently clear because the final overview comes after most details, and the body moves between the castle, facilities, harbour areas and beach without a clear spatial or thematic grouping. Some links are also awkward, as in “Showers & toilets were located to the south of small car park remained same,” where the relationship between the features is difficult to follow. Organise the body into clearer groups—for example, harbour and facilities, then southern shoreline—and use linking phrases to show how each feature changed.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use relevant map vocabulary, including “converted into a hotel,” “adjacent to,” “relocated,” and “private beach,” which helps communicate the main changes. There is also an attempt to vary wording rather than repeat “changed” throughout. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “south-eastren,” “Passangers,” “feathers” for features, and “build” where a past participle is needed. Phrases such as “big car park” are informal and imprecise for an IELTS report, while “parallel to each other” does not clearly describe the marina and fishing-boat areas. Use accurate labels and more formal location language, such as “larger car park” or “in the northern and southern basins.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including the contrast in “The castle … was converted into a hotel whereas the car parks remained unchanged.” However, errors in sentence construction and verb forms are frequent enough to make some relationships unclear. For example, “Showers & toilets were located to the south of small car park remained same” lacks a clear clause structure, and “Porth Harbour undergone a several changes” has problems with the verb form, article and noun phrase. There are also missing articles in phrases such as “Main road” and “beside the lifeboat,” and inconsistent tense control in “are build.” Build shorter, complete clauses first, then combine them with accurate relative or contrast clauses; check articles, past-tense forms and subject–verb agreement.
