Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify that the harbour has changed substantially and mention several relevant developments, including new cafés and shops, additional facilities, the hotel and the private beach. However, some key comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: the dock has not become “two docks”; it has an additional jetty and two boats. The marina and fishing-boat areas have exchanged locations, but this is not clearly explained, and the lifeboat and passenger ferries are not both unchanged. The statement that the south-eastern area was blank is also unsupported, as a disused castle stood there in 2000. The overview gives a general sense of change, but a more precise account of the main transformations and locations is needed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an overall paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of different areas. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “In 2000” and “Moreover” attempt to connect information. However, progression within the body paragraphs is difficult to follow: the second paragraph shifts between the north-west, the eastern side and the north-east, while the final paragraph ends abruptly with “At the end on the south”. Some linking is inaccurate or unclear, and references such as “it” in “it has been changed” do not make the feature being described clear. Group the comparison by location or by major changes, and use clear links between each point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “harbour”, “main road”, “car park”, “fishing boats” and “private beach”, so the basic subject is recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the description harder to understand: “shower toilet”, “facilites”, “enetertain”, “noerthern-eastern” and “beech”. Phrases such as “blank places has been filled” and “to buying different things” are also unnatural for describing map changes. Use precise map vocabulary such as “facilities”, “area”, “relocated” and “replaced”, and check spelling carefully. Avoid repeating “there was” by using verbs such as “stood”, “was located” and “was converted into”.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts to combine information in longer sentences, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between features unclear. For example, “The two diagram illustrate” has a plural-agreement error, while “has changes” and “the Porth Harbour undergone” use incorrect verb forms. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent in “a shower toilet and car park” and “the blank places has been filled”. Sentence boundaries and punctuation need attention: “Overall, the” lacks a space, and the final sentence is incomplete. Most clauses follow simple patterns, with limited accurate variety. Practise forming clear past-versus-present comparisons, checking subject–verb agreement, and completing each sentence before adding another detail.
